Last year, on Baishakh 12, we lost thousands of lives and suffered massive infrastructural damage in the aftermath of the tragic 7.8 ML earthquake. The same day, this year, Mondo-HELP built and inaugurated the secondary school (in a month) – Shree Pema Chholing Lower Secondary School in Sindupalchowk.
The event started at 11:56am with a minute of silence and burning 108 butter lamps (chhemis) in memory of all those who lost their lives followed by HELP’s CEO Jimmy Lama performing puja called “sang”, which is a purification ceremony. Dr. Bidyanath Koirala and joint-secretary at Ministry of Education, Mr. Krishna Dhungana joined the villagers and Mondo-HELP team to officially open the school.
14 classrooms building have been fully refurbished/retro fitted with supervision from government engineers and a brand new toilet building is ready for use with separate sections for girls and boys. Luke Simon, Founder-CEO of School in a Bag distributed 150 bags for children from Nakote, Serkathili, Tartong and Tashithang.
The Children will begin their classes in the new building from 25th of April leaving their TLC behind. One month prior on March 27th 2016, Executive Director of Helambu Education and Livelihood Partnership (HELP) Jimmy Lama, in association with Chief Executive of MondoChallenge Foundation, Anthony Lunch, inaugurated a new building of an earthquake damaged primary school in Birkharka, Sindhupalchok.
HELP established the first stone-masonry building as Shree Satdhara Primary School under its school reconstruction project.
